Heinrich Schiff plays Gulda: Cello Concerto
Concert
Munich Klaviersommer
Production Date: 16/07/1988

Friedrich Gulda dedicated his Concerto for Cello and Wind Orchestra of 1980 to Heinrich Schiff, and the two of them present the work here in a definitive performance recorded at the Munich Klaviersommer in 1988. Reflecting Gulda’s own iconoclastic philosophy and varied and voracious musical tastes, the concerto brings together musical styles ranging from rock to 20th-century modernism, from folk and circus music to Wagner. The result is a witty, engaging and often moving work that delights in breaking the rules – much like its creator.
