Andreas Ottensamer has already arranged seven of Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words for clarinet and piano for his album Blue Hour and here he follows up that success with new arrangements of further works from the collection – this time for clarinet and string quintet. Together with the Schumann Quartet and double bassist and Berliner Philharmoniker colleague Gunars Upatnieks, Ottensamer casts new light on Mendelssohn's piano miniatures. In the second half of the programme, the Schumann Quartet plays the last of the three string quartets by Schumann, which he published in 1843 and dedicated to his friend Mendelssohn. A Styrian Dance by Joseph Lanner brings the concert to a charming conclusion.
