Bach specialist Enoch zu Guttenberg conducts the Chorgemeinschaft Neubeuern – which he himself founded in 1967 – and Munich Bach Collegium in Bach's fiercely dramatic and deeply moving St John Passion. The performance, filmed in the magnificent setting of the baroque church in Gösseweinstein, north of Nuremberg, features a superb line-up of soloists – including the mezzo-soprano Natalie Stutzmann, tenor Claes-Håkan Ahnsjö and baritone Thomas Quasthoff – all of whom come together to help execute the conductor's powerful, highly individual vision of this remarkable work.
