The classical music world was astonished when Austrian pianist Friedrich Gulda returned to works by Frédéric Chopin in the mid-1980s. He had long since been considered the most original and sovereign Beethoven interpreter of his time and from the middle years of his career, had kept his distance from Romanticism. In this recording from 1986, Gulda presents a completely new view of the Polish composer's music with powerfully sober, yet emotionally stirring playing. In addition to a selection of Chopin’s famous Préludes, the programme also includes the tender Nocturne in B Major.
