Friedrich Gulda might have rebelled fearlessly against the routines of the classical music business, but at the same time he was one of the most passionate, yet completely unsentimental interpreters of the works of Mozart. In this 1986 performance with the Munich Philharmonic, Gulda appeared as usual without traditional concert attire – but with his trademark cap – not only as a pianist but also as musical director. Highlights of the recording include the dramatically moving middle section from the slow movement of the K. 466 Concerto and the finale of the "Coronation" Concerto, played by Gulda with striking contrasts and elan.
