For the first Europakonzert of the new millennium – and the tenth since they started – Claudio Abbado and the Berliner Philharmoniker stayed at home in Berlin Philharmonie for a programme culminating in Beethoven's celebratory Ninth Symphony, featuring a top quartet of soloists representing four different countries: Finland, Lithuania, the USA and Germany. For the first half of the concert, conductor and orchestra are joined by Russian pianist Mikhail Pletnev in Beethoven's playful Piano Concerto No. 2.
