Daniel Barenboim is without doubt one of the most versatile and all-embracing musicians of his generation, and here is a concert that brings together many strands of his musical life. He conducts the Berliner Philharmoniker a programme featuring core works of the 19th Century in Berlin’s Staatsoper unter den Linden – of which he was Music Director from 1992 to 2023 – while the quartet of horns in Schumann’s rousing Konzertstück includes principal horns from the Staatskappelle Berlin and Chicago Symphony Orchestra (of which Barenboim was also Chief Conductor at the time), alongside players from the Berliner Philharmoniker. The result is a concert to treasure.
