In this performance filmed in September 1970, Karl Böhm conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker in Mozart's early Symphony No. 28, among the last of his symphonies from the Salzburg period. Böhm's deep love and knowledge of Mozart was inspired in part by his work with Richard Strauss and his performances of the composers in his later years became a byword for instinctive musicality and authority – especially when in collaboration with unparalleled musicians of the Wiener Philharmoniker.
