Böhm conducts Mozart: Die Entführung aus dem Serail

Legendary Mozartian Karl Böhm presides over this classic performance of Die Entführung aus dem Serail filmed at the Bayerische Staatsoper in 1980. Director August Everding set out to stage Mozart’s popualar singspiel as a sunny comic opera but without neglecting the “depth” required by the composer. The comic characters, accordingly, are not mere caricatures: their humanity is explored to the full. And with a cast featuring Edita Gruberová as Konstanze, Franciso Araiza as Belmonte and Martti Talvela as Osmin, the result is truly a performance to treasure.
