Chick Corea: The Meeting Solo Pt. 2

For the second part of the legendary meeting between Chick Corea and Friedrich Gulda at the 1982 Munich Klaviersommer, the legendary jazz pianist takes to the stage on his own to perform a set that shows the true extent to his astonishing abilities as an improvisor. For the first improvisation, Corea takes Thelonius Monks 1943 standard, "Round Midnight", as his basis before the rest of the set sees his imagination run entirely free – a tour de force of creativity in the moment and sheer pianistic virtuosity. The result is by turns playful, questioning and hypnotic – and truly memorable.
