Bruce Liu & Fabio Luisi in Scriabin & Tchaikovksy

Two great Russian composers and two masterpieces: one from the end of a career and one from the start. As part of their ongoing Scriabin focus, Fabio Liusi and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra are joined by pianist Bruce Liu for the composer’s early piano concerto – an intoxicating work that mixes many strains of musical Romanticism into a potent cocktail demanding a soloist, like Liu, who combines fearless virtuosity with instinctive poetry. For the second half of the concert, conductor and orchestra perform Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony, premiered just three years before Scriabin’s work and days before Tchaikovsky’s death. One of the composer’s last works, it remains to this day one of his most profoundly moving, too.
