One day before her 21st birthday, Hilary Hahn performs with the Berliner Philharmoniker at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, which was built on the model of the orchestra's home in Berlin. Mariss Jansons conducts this concert in Japan, in which the the poetic soundscapes of Dvořák's lyrical Symphony No.8 are preceded by Shostakovich's technically demanding First Violin Concerto. Hahn shines as a soloist and leaves no doubt that she belongs to the next generation of top violinists following the likes of the work's dedicatee, David Oistrakh. The American violinist made her acclaimed debut with the Philharmonic with the same violin concerto just a few months previously.
