Velvet Revolution Concert 2023 – with Janine Jansen & Antonio Pappano

For its 2023 concert commemorating the Velvet Revolution in Prague, the Czech Philharmonic invites Janine Jansen as guest soloist in Mendelssohn's ever-popular Violin Concerto in E minor. She joins the orchestra and conductor Antonio Pappano – making his debut with the orchestra – for a programme of Romantic music that begins with Brahms's rarely-heard Nänie, an 1881 setting of words by Friedrich Schiller for chorus and orchestra composed in memory of a close friend. The concert concludes in rousing style with Dvořák's Slavonic Dances, Op. 72, originally inspired by Brahms's own wildly popular sets of Hungarian Dances.
